Far below the overlook, Monument Creek flows through one of the Grand Canyon's best-known side canyons before eventually joining the Colorado River. Although the creek itself is often difficult to see from the rim, the broad drainage it created dominates the landscape below.

Monument Creek is well known among backpackers and river runners because it provides access to one of the canyon's classic backcountry camping areas. The drainage has served as an important travel corridor for generations of hikers exploring the western Inner Canyon.

Getting to Monument Creek Vista

Monument Creek Vista is reached using the free Hermits Rest Red Route shuttle, by bicycle, or by walking Hermit Road. During the primary visitor season, private vehicles are generally prohibited beyond the Hermit Road entrance, although seasonal winter access may be available depending on park operations.

Many visitors combine Monument Creek Vista with The Abyss, Pima Point, and Hermits Rest as part of a leisurely afternoon exploring the quieter western section of Hermit Road.

Accessibility

The primary overlook is accessible to many visitors using mobility devices. As with most Hermit Road viewpoints, some secondary viewpoints and informal paths may have uneven surfaces.

There are no visitor services or restrooms at Monument Creek Vista, so plan accordingly before beginning the western portion of Hermit Road.
